On the first day of 2014, set your compass and join us on a journey through Edinburgh’s Old Town, in the new, mystical and magical world of SCOT:LANDS
Discover nine incredible, new worlds, presenting the very best in music, art and theatre. Created and curated by Scotland’s most innovative artists and musicians.
The Ceilidh Place
Here in Edinburgh for the first time, experience the inimitable atmosphere and hospitality of one of Scotland’s most famously convivial venues, The Ceilidh Place. With music, songs and stories, bite into a rich and hearty slice of the North West Highlands, and enjoy a taste of local food and artisan beer. At the end of the A835 you’ll find the centre of the Highland Universe and one of the most dramatic landscapes in Britain.
Joseph Peach Trio
From Dundee, Smallpetitklein, Scotland’s most innovative, independent contemporary dance company creates in one of the city’s extraordinary landmark buildings, their most adventurous dance performance to date. Wander with them through “The Snowstorms”, evoked in the short story by Tolstoy and the eponymous poem by Ralph Waldo Emerson, in a uniquely uplifting experience. Musical accompaniment in F minor from Philip Glass and Widor’s Symphony, Number 5. Performed Live.
The Pathhead Music collective
HEID:LAND – the fantasy recreation of the musical and everyday life of a small ex-mining village, in a multi-space venue in the Big City. Some of Scotland’s finest musicians live in and around Pathhead, so expect a stellar line up for a family Ceilidh, a concert in the “village hall”, a “joiney-in” space where you can join the Choir and Drumming Group and a recreation of the weekly music session in the village pub.
Land in LAU:LAND – brilliant musicians, thrilling performers, free-thinking visionaries and all-round good chaps. Lau’s journey began with three blokes sitting down to play a few tunes on fiddle, guitar and squeezebox at a kitchen table in Edinburgh in 2004. Now they’re at the epicentre of the new folk boom. Find out where they got to when we visit this unique, surreal world formed from their collective musical mind with their friends and collaborators - some of Scotland’s finest traditional and experimental musicians.
On a quayside in faraway Lerwick sits Mareel, the UK’s most northerly music, cinema, and creative industries centre, run by Shetland arts. You will be transported into this musical and mythical land by the spontaneity of a “Shetland Session” amongst views of the extraordinary landscapes and seascapes of the Isles. SHET:LaND will carry you away to the archipelago of a hundred islands, allowing you to experience a little of the magic, energy, and spirit that attracts visitors from all over the world.

Cora Bissett with Swimmer One and David Greig
Come meet lost souls, party animals and dreamers from Cora Bissett’s award winning multi-media production “Whatever Gets You Through the Night” - the sell-out sensation from the Glasgow arches and Edinburgh Fringe. With songs and materials by Rachel Sermanni, Stef Smith, Eugene Kelly, Meursault, Andrew Eaton-Lewis/ Seafieldroad and Cora Bissett.
King Creosote & the Fence Collective
With well-known friends and collaborators, Kenny Anderson, one of Scotland’s most highly regarded and prolific music artists, traces the shoreline of his musical homeland – the sometimes mystical East Neuk of Fife. King Crabsote, Withered Claw and the Fence Krillective have baited their creels from the East Neuk of Fife.

The FOUND Collective
Edinburgh-based art collective FOUND will tap into the contemplative resonance and exquisite acoustics of Old St Paul’s Church. Experience a candle-lit musical performance which treats sound and silence as equals. Get lost in a languorous and dreamlike place in the company of some of our most enigmatic musicians.
At the gateway of the year, enter NETHER:LAND at this Old Town Port. You’ll get a warm, very Edinburgh welcome. Descend into a land of custom, ritual and reflection, introducing the Galoshins Folk Tales. Stories will be told, both inside and out in the garden. In Old Edinburgh there’s always another threshold to cross.
