The Night Afore ‘Monster Ceilidh' on Sunday 30 December will be an eclectic mix of music, street theatre, storytelling and giant (but friendly!) monsters from throughout Europe. Building on the success of previous years, where Scotland celebrated the culture of other countries, this year the Night Afore will celebrate the Highlands and the impact our land to the north has had on the world. A hugely ambitious programme of music, dance and street theatre is planned over several stages and throughout George Street from 8pm including:
Main Ceilidh Stage: featuring Ashley MacIssac, Portobello Ceilidh Band and once again, the world-record breaking Strip the Willow at 9pm
The Keilidh-oke Stage: American linedancing with the High Country Ramblers - come and join in the fun. Also featuring Keilidh-oke with comedienne compere, Karen Dunbar, featuring all the Scottish hits
The All-Dancin' Stage: Produced by Morag Deyes of Dancebase - Dannsa: Blazing a trail for Scottish traditional dance and step dance Edinburgh's stunning breakdance crew ‘Moving in Circles'.
The Auchenshoogle Mad Village Dance (in the Assembly Rooms): featuring the Jimi Shandrix Experience and Hugh McDiarmid's Haircut
Also featuring Osadia, The Hairdressers from Barcelona return to Edinburgh's Hogmanay, Massed Pipes and Drums lead the Night Afore celebrations setting out from the Mound and the MOD winning Gaelic choir. Tipi Tales, features Stories for Kids, Bizarre Stories with Phil Kay and Cheeky Stories with Craig Hill - 2 sessions an hour, on the hour and half-hour. Admission FREE.
