Influential travel bloggers from as far afield as the USA, Australia, Malaysia and Europe came to Scotland to celebrate Edinburgh’s Hogmanay. They were joined by members of the UK and Scottish travel blogging community and everyone on Twitter and Instagram who uses our hashtag #blogmanay.
We’ve posting selected highlights here. Read out more on the Blogmanay page.
‘Fire and lights finish off the year with a fireworks display that was so powerful that its final seconds literally shook those of us in the crowd from the inside. That this all took place in the shadow of Edinburgh’s medieval castle almost made it too much…’

‘I fully expected to enjoy Scotland. I even expected that I would have fun at Hogmanay. What I didn’t count on, was Hogmanay topping my favorite New Year’s experience….
Well played, Scotland. Well played. You trumped everything else I’ve ever done to say goodbye to one year and hello to another… ‘

‘Unlike other well-known New Year’s celebrations around the world, Hogmanay doesn’t last just one night. Yes, New York might have a giant party in Times Square and Sydney might have spectacular fireworks. But does either one of those have Vikings? Or ceilidh dancing? Or fireworks above a castle?

At last however I’ve managed to bring in the New Year with a celebration worthy of calling itself a New Year’s Party and that is Hogmanay in Edinburgh…’

‘The Hogmanay events started almost two full days before the crowning countdown, and the city pulled out all the stops for the influx of visitors. From early on the 30th of December people were enjoying great views from the top of the Edinburgh Wheel and having fun at the Hogmanay Carnival across the bridge. But it’s only when the skies started to darken that the real atmosphere of Hogmanay arrived… ‘

‘Having taken part for the first time in the Torchlight procession this year as part of Blogmanay, I can honestly tell you it was a truly magical event. It’s also something the whole family can take part in, and so there was people of all ages walking with their torch in unison up to the top of Calton Hill. Even as a spectator I think this event is worth coming along to for the magical views of thousands of flaming torches all ‘dancing’ in the dark and making their way across the city…’
